As for all those human readers out there, your appreciation of Eagles’ platelet-happy pieces depends on your squeamishness. He also experiments with projectors, turning entire rooms into arteries. If you’ve ever wanted to feel like Raquel Welch in Fantastic Voyage, it’s not a bad place to start.

Oxnard Group Fights Self-Hatred Within Mexican Community
Internalized Racism Shows Itself in Another California Agricultural Town
Mexican communities along the California coast are changing.
They’re becoming more Indigenous.
For generations, Mexican communities in California were largely made up of families from states in Mexico that participated in the Bracero Program: Michoacan, Jalisco, Guanajuato, and Zacatecas. In the last twenty years, as the children and grandchildren of braceros become more educated, jobs in many of these communities, in particular, those in agriculture, began to be filled by newcomers from towns in Mexico more rural and isolated, largely from the state of Oaxaca and Guerrero.
In a report titled “Profile of Hired Farmworkers, A 2008 Update,” the USDA estimated that up to 30 percent of California’s farmworkers are from an Indigenous-speaking town or village in Mexico.
This shift has enriched the Mexican community, bringing new foods and traditions to towns and cities along the coast and in the valleys, but it has also, in many instances, exposed the issue of internalized racism.
Hundreds of years of Spain’s brutal colonization of Mexico has left its mark. It has caused many Mexicans to feel that their Indigenous features are unattractive and something to be ashamed of. These self-hating views have, unfortunately, migrated with many Mexicans to the United States and is now playing out in Mexican communities in California and beyond.
This problem is being addressed in new campaign led by the Mixteco/Indigenous Community Organizing Project, MICOP, called “No Me Llames Oaxaquita,” or “Don’t Call Me Little Oaxacan.”
“After seeing Mexicans being nasty and aggressive to other Mexicans instead of supporting each other, I realized I should do something,” said Arsenio López, MICOP’s associate director, in a recent Ventura County Star article.
The Oxnard-based group recently celebrated a victory. The local school board recently voted (see video below) to prohibit the words “Oaxaquita” and “indigo” (little Indian) from being used on school grounds and is helping the district to set up anti-bullying comittees.

Darling if I, for a second, thought Morrissey was racist, I would never play another one of his records ever again because racism is dumb and I wouldn’t want to associate myself with racist musicians and put myself to their moral levels by listening to them.
Morrissey, a vegetarian and animal rights advocate who last year abandoned the stage at the Coachella festival in California because of the smell of cooking meat, described the treatment of animals in China ”absolutely horrific”, referring to recent news stories about animals in Chinese circuses and zoos. He told interviewer Simon Armitage: “Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can’t help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies.”

Listen: you don’t have to burn crosses or attend Neo-Nazis rallies to be a racist. You don’t even have to do extreme violence to be a racist (although lynching atrocities were conducted by average Joes who thought blacks were a “subspecies”). All you have to do is say stupid shit like that.
